On Tuesday, a Special Court in the Chhattisgarh capital of Raipur remanded suspended Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Gurjinder Pal Singh, a 1994 batch IPS officer, to fourteen-day judicial remand, in connection with the cases registered against him by the state’s anti-corruption bureau and economic offences wing (EOW) under Prevention of Corruption Act. Singh had applied for bail which was rejected by the special judge Leena Agrawal.

Singh was produced in the Court around 2 pm amid tight police security after completion of his custody period with the ACB.

Singh, who was arrested by an ACB/EOW team from Delhi last Tuesday, was brought to Raipur by road & later he was produced before the Court of special judge (Prevention of Corruption Act) Leena Agrawal, who remanded him to the custody of investigating agency till Jan 14. On Jan 14, he was again remanded for 4 days.

During the course of custody, ACB had repeatedly maintained that the senior IPS officer wasn't cooperating with the probe. However, his lawyers denied the charge.

Earlier, while being taken to the Court, the IPS officer told the media that “These are not my properties. I have nothing to do with this. The allegations against me are fabricated. If you see the FIR, you will come to know that some of the properties mentioned belonged to me”. He had also alleged that he was under pressure to get the witnesses in PDS scam hostile & to fix Ex-CM Raman Singh & his wife Veena Singh in that case.

The ACB & EOW had conducted a 3-day raid at the residence & other premises of G P Singh from July one. Earlier, he had headed the same ACB/EOW agency as the additional director general of police. Later, the anti-corruption agency had claimed that the search yielded assets worth Rs 10 crore & Rs 16 lakh in cash, along with several documents.

However, the anti-corruption probe against the IPS officer took a new turn within a week when the state police booked him on charges of sedition & promoting enmity. An FIR was filed at Raipur’s Kotwali police station on the intervening night of July nine & 10 under IPC section 124A for sedition & 153 A for promoting enmity.

After anti-corruption raids & FIR for sedition against him, the IPS officer had sought anticipatory bail from a local court, which rejected his application. Later, the high court & the Supreme Court turned down his plea for probe by an independent agency like the CBI into the sedition case against but he did not get interim relief.
