The Special Court of Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST) has ordered the SC/ST Police Station to register an FIR against Ranchi city SP Saurav, DSP PK Mishra, officer-in-charge SC/ST police station & JMM leader Pankaj Mishra, who is an accused in the Rupa Tirkey death case.
The order, which was issued on Nov 26, came to light on Wednesday when the Advocate received its copy.
Lawyer Rajiv Kumar said, “The judge asked the SC/ST police to register the FIR under section 153 (3) of the CrPC. The order has been passed on the basis of an audio clip, which had become viral in connection with the case.”
In the audio, DSP PK Mishra, who was then heading the special investigation team to probe the Rupa Tirkey death case, allegedly abused the victim.
Rupa’s mother, Padmavati Orain, had approached the ST/SC police station for registration of FIR against the DSP & Pankaj Mishra in this connection but was turned away.City SP Saurav had reportedly expressed his inability to do anything in the case, saying it was related to Sahebganj district. Subsequently, Padmavati had lodged a court complaint against the four persons.
On Wednesday, SC/ST police said they have not received the order of the copy so far & no FIR has been lodged.
Tirkey was found hanging in her official room in Sahebganj on May 3, 2021. The incident led to several protests by social organisations even as Tirkey’s father expressed lack of confidence in the police investigation. A petition was filed with Jharkhand High Court, which ordered a CBI inquiry into the case.
