The Delhi Government had planned to organise a Musical Play on the life of Dr. BR Ambedkar at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from January 5. As mentioned by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the press conference this week.
"The Delhi government is organizing a musical play on the life of Dr BR Ambedkar. It will be held from January 5, 2022. There will be two shows per day at 5 and 8 pm. There are a total of 50 shows on his life."
With regard to this, in view of the increasing impact of new Covid variant 'Omicron', Supreme Court Advocate, Gagan Gandhi has written to Delhi CM Kejriwal on behalf of his client, Sawarn Singh Mattu, to make the event 'virtual'
He pleaded that while his client appreciates the Government's initiative, and the fact that the tickets to the show are free, he reminds the Government of the current scenerio around Covid. With Yellow Alert being declared by DDMA, he questions the mode of the event which is physical, allowing a gathering.
He deems his responsibility to ask the authorities to do maximum on thier part to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus which is has already been declared as a pandemic by WHO.
The letter thus mentions the statistics to reason :
"That there has been rise in Covid-19 cases in the last few days and positivity rate has reached to more than 0.5% for two consecutive days besides regular increase in new Omicron variant of Covid-19 in Delhi and hence Delhi has entered into Level1(Yellow level) of restrictions on social activities. economic activities, transportation/movement in NCT of Delhi."
In light of the above, it was requested that the event be organized via virtual mode only and or may be postponed until normalcy returns.
"That in the light of above stated facts and circumstances you are hereby requested to organize the aforementioned event through virtual mode only and or may like to postpone the said event till the situation qua Covid-19 is normal with issuance of public notice to this effect."
