On Thursday, the Madras High Court ordered a CBI probe into the alleged misappropriation of fund from Advocates Welfare Fund running into crores of rupees.
JusticeIt was alleged by the petitioner that the ongoing probe by Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) is not effective in unearthing the larger criminal conspiracy in the case.
The case has been registered against one Chandran, who was the accountant in the Advocate Welfare Fund Trustee Committee Office. This would appear as if he alone was running the office of Bar Council of Kerala as well as the welfare fund office.
On the other hand, involvement of highlevel officials of Bar Council of Kerala has been alleged, as revealed by the interim report by the committee of retired judges that was appointed by Bar Council of India, the petition had said.
Investigation by an inspector of police in a case in which the first information statement was registered by a superintendent of police will not instill confidence in the mind of the public and the members of the legal fraternity, the petitioner had contended. Sunil Thomas issued the order after considering a petition filed by advocate CG Arun of Kannur through advocate T Asaf Ali.
