The Court has directed the parties to “think out of the box” and act expeditiously to prevent further wastage of food grains lying in the facility. The Punjab and Haryana Court has directed to form a committee in order to resolve the dispute arising out of a blockade created by farm laws protestors outside a warehouse in Ferozpur.
Factual Background
The petitioners in the present case were owners of a facility that stores food grains till the time of distribution. Protestors protesting against the farm laws blocked the facility, thus breaking the supply chain for goods lying inside, most of which were on the verge of expiry.
Case of the Petitioners
The petitioner reached to the District Collector and even the Chief Minister and the Deputy Commissioner, in want of legal action. However there was no response to the same, thus the petitioner moved to the High Court for a direction to the State authorities to ensure that the free movement of food grain is not hindered.
Case of the Respondent
At the time of hearing the State mentioned that it can appoint the senior officials in order to find a solution to the ongoing dispute as the same is leading to wastage of food grains. The committee formed by the Court will constitute the Principal Secretary Home, Government of Punjab, Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order Punjab, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozpur, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Ferozpur, amongst other officers.
Observation of the Court
The Court concluded stating that,
“it is expected and hoped that all efforts would be made by the
quarters concerned in the spirit of ‘malice towards none with charity for all.”
