Advocates of Rajasthan HC have urged the Union Law Ministry to fill the vacant posts of Judges, which is almost half its sanctioned strength. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has assured to look into it.
A delegation of the Rajasthan High Court Advocates’ Association met Rijiju in Delhi & submitted a memorandum.
Association Chief Nathu Singh Rathore said the court had been functioning with 23 Judges against a sanctioned strength of 50.
He said that “Making things further worse, seven of the 23 judges would retire by the end of next year & if no new appointments are made soon, the strength would go down miserably".
According to the High Court website, the total number of cases pending before both Jodhpur and Jaipur benches stood at a staggering 5,44,913 cases in June.
Of these, 3,28,262 cases are pending in Jaipur circuit bench while the remaining 2,16,651 cases have piled up at the principal bench of the court in Jodhpur. Rathore said this pendency had been increasing month after month with the number of cases being filed in the courts on dayto-day basis is on the rise.
The last appointment of Judges in the HC had taken place in March 2020 when 6 judicial officers had been elevated to the judgeship from judicial quota but with a short stint.
Of these, one has already retired, while 4 will be retiring next year.
