On Sunday, via its Press Release, the Bar Council of India has appreciated the Chief Justice of India for highlighting the difficulties faced by Advocates in the Pandemic.

The Council has recognised the letter written to the Law and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for granting financial assistance to the Advocates-in-need who are suffering for the last several months due to the situation created by COVID 19 in the country.

Praising CJI Ramana for lending compassionate ear to the serious situation and taking note of the sufferings of the legal fraternity, the Council has stated it as 'for the first time in long time' and said it speaks volume of CJI's concern for a community he heads.

Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said in the press release:

"Our country and the system was direly in need of such a dynamic and bar- friendly Chief Justice of India who is well acquainted with ground realities of a common Lawyer."

The Council further stated that Justice Ramana 'perfectly' realized and conveyed the real difficulties faced by the distressed and troubled Advocates and lower Judiciary, particularly, belonging to remote areas of the country.

It has called the request to Ministry for providing effective, uninterrupted internet connection and all other infrastructure to the stakeholders even in the rural areas as 'revolutionary'.

The Release also mentioned how BCI was raising the issue for long:

"The Bar Council of India has been making both these demands since long, but, the Government has paid no heed to it. But, now, we are confident that the Government will come forward to the rescue of the needy Advocates."

Appreciating the gesture of the Chief Justice, the Council has also remarked that normally after an Advocate becomes a Judge, he forgets the real, genuine and substantial problems of the Bar.

"But Justice Ramana has proved that he remembers the hardships, particularly of young members of the Bar. This is a rare quality of a humble judge. Justice N.V Ramana has made it clear that he believes in hard work and good performance, and, not in media,"

'

Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana on Saturday expressed concern at “the poor digital connectivity in rural, tribal, remote and hilly areas”, saying this was slowing justice delivery across the country and depriving thousands of young lawyers of their livelihood.

Justice Ramana said he had written to Union law and information technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to address the problem, underscoring the importance of the issue at a time the pandemic has forced all court proceedings to be held virtually.
