Electronics and IT Ministry has asked social media
intermediaries for compliance details over the new Information
Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Ethics Code) Rules,
2021. The new rules were notified on 25th of February and came into
effect yesterday.
The Ministry has also sought details of
Chief Compliance Officer and Resident Grievance Officer appointed by
digital platforms under the new IT rules. The Centre had given
Significant Social Media Intermediaries, SSMI three months to comply
with the request. Any social media platform with more than 50 lakh users
will be designated as a Significant Social Media Intermediary.
