The Supreme Court Monday declined to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking imposition of President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh.
Petitioner CR Jayasukin, a lawyer by profession, alleged breakdown of law and order in the state, inter-alia, on account of alleged fake encounters, arbitrary arrests, indiscriminate targeting of minorites and rising crime against women.
Chief Justice SA Bobde asked the petitioner whether he studied the crime record of other states?
“There is no research about what you are saying. How are your fundamental rights getting affected”, CJI Bobde asked the petitioner.
The Court eventually dismissed the petition, but not before warning the petitioner of imposing the costs, if he proceeded to argue the plea any further.
