New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Central Government to tell it of the steps taken thus far by the Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) to tackle pollution in the capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas.
Additional lawman Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the middle , told the bench headed by judge SA Bobde that the govt is preparing a composite affidavit for filing the matter in the apex court.
The bench also comprises Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V. Ramasubramanian. The bench said, 'You file your affidavit.'
The court said that the affidavit should contain information about what steps the commission has taken so far.
The
court, which is hearing air pollution related cases in Delhi-NCR, was
told during the video-conferencing hearing that the commission has not
done anything yet.
Senior advocate Vikas Singh, appearing for petitioner Aditya Dubey, who had raised the difficulty of accelerating pollution thanks to stubble burning within the neighboring states of Delhi, said, "The committee has 14 members, but they have done nothing."
To this, Bhati said, 'Our affidavit is ready. Give us two days. '
A lawyer appearing in the case claimed that the incidence of stubble burning has increased by five percent.
Bharti said, "We are preparing the overall report." The bench fixed December 17 for further hearing in the case.
Explain that on November 6, the court had asked the Center to ensure that there is no fog in Delhi-NCR.
The
bench had said, "You just have to make sure that there is no smog in
the city." We have nothing to do with the commission. There are many
commissions here and many people are working on it, but you just make
sure that there is no smog in the city. '
Earlier, the court was informed that the Air Quality Management Commission would start functioning from November 6.
The
Center has appointed former Delhi Chief Secretary MM Kutty as Chairman
of the Air Quality Management Commission in the National Capital Region
and adjoining areas.
The Center had informed the court on October 29
that the government has brought an ordinance to curb pollution and it
has been implemented.
The bench had said that it would like to see
the ordinance before giving any instructions in the case of air
pollution due to burning of stubble in the neighboring states of Delhi.
