Approval to initiate contempt proceedings against cartoonist after Kunal Kamra

New Delhi: Less than a month after Attorney General of India KK Venugopal approved the initiation of contempt of court proceedings against comedian Kunal Kamra over a tweet made during the hearing on Arnab Goswami's bail plea in the Supreme Court. Another request has been accepted, demanding contempt proceedings against cartoonist Rachita Taneja. This case is also related to Arnab Goswami and the Supreme Court.

According to a Bar & Bench report, after considering a cartoon published in a web comics called Sanitary Panels, Venugopal agreed to the requests of law student Aditya Kashyap for contempt proceedings against cartoonist Taneja.

Sanitary Panels has 14,400 followers on Twitter and regularly criticizes the government, official corruption and misogini (misogyny).

Arnab Goswami, standing in the middle of one of the so-called outrageous cartoons, is pointing to the BJP and saying to the Supreme Court, "You don't know who my father is?" Contempt proceedings were approved against.

In his reply to Kashyap, the Attorney General says that if the above cartoon was tweeted from the Twitter handle of the sanitary panels, it would be presumed that he had pushed it further on the basis that the BJP was in any way willing to save Arnab Goswami. And pressurized the Supreme Court to do so. Therefore, it would clearly mean that the Supreme Court of India is biased towards the ruling political party Bharatiya Janata Party and will decide for the benefit of the ruling party.

Let us tell you that in the past year 2018, in a case of abetment to suicide in the year 2018, the editor-in-chief of Republic TV Arnab Goswami was granted interim bail. During the hearing, Justice DY Chandrachud had expressed disappointment that the Bombay High Court had not interfered in the personal liberty case while granting bail to Goswami.

Many social media users had said that such priority was not given to many other journalists and activists sent to jail by BJP-ruled governments.

The Attorney General's letter tweeted by Bar & Bench shows that he also held contempt for the court even when sanitary panels called the Supreme Court the Union Court of India. Venugopal said, 'Arnab Gates Bell, Real Journalists Gate The mention of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh with the slogan, Independent Judiciary is failed is a gross objection against the Supreme Court of India and shows that the Supreme Court of India is no longer an impartial part of the country.

The Attorney General writes that the tweet clearly shows the freedom and impartiality of the Supreme Court in the public eye.

However, recently the fairness of the Supreme Court has been questioned not only by Twitter users but also retired judges like Justice AP Shah of Delhi and Madras High Court.

According to the Bar and Bench, in its letter, law student Aditya Kashyap referred to another tweet by the sanitary panels, in which the judiciary (especially the retired Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi) and the central government were involved in deciding the Ayodhya land dispute. Refers to the transaction.

Earlier, on hearing the petition of Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami, who was arrested for abetment of suicide, for allegedly promptly granting bail, some tweets related to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra regarding mocking the Supreme Court. Contempt proceedings were allowed to begin against the court on November 12.Approval to initiate contempt proceedings against cartoonist after Kunal Kamra
