New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday said that the Supreme Court is already considering the issue related to the petition challenging the central government's approval to get 'Bindas Bol' program to Sudarshan TV, so it is hearing this issue Separate themselves.
Justice Naveen Chawla also rejected the plea of the petitioner's counsel to adjourn the case for eight weeks and wait for the Supreme Court's verdict. The Supreme Court can hear the case on Thursday.
After this, the counsel for the petitioners (former and current students of Jamia Millia Islamia University) said that they would withdraw the petition and move the Supreme Court.
The court said, "The petition is withdrawn, hence it is dismissed."
The petition challenged the decision of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to approve Sudarshan TV's program 'Bindas Bol'.
The petition of Syed Mujtaba Athar and Ritesh Siraj has claimed that the proposed show is filled with hateful statements and defame the petitioners and if it does not come to a decision on the current petition before the program airs then they will be extremely The damage will be done and the petition will have no meaning.
The petition said that the Ministry is avoiding using its powers under the Cable TV Act to stop this proposed show.
Significantly, 'Bindas Bol' is the show of Suresh Chavanke, editor-in-chief of Sudarshan News Channel. In the trailer of an episode released in the last week of August, Chavanke claimed to have made a big disclosure of the conspiracy to infiltrate Muslims in the bureaucracy by writing the hashtag UPSC Jihad.
The show was supposed to be telecast on August 28 at eight o'clock, but it was stayed by the Delhi High Court on the same day on the petition of the students of Jamia Millia Islamia.
After this, on 9 September, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting gave the channel permission to broadcast the program, after which the Delhi High Court sent a notice to it, but the Ministry refused to stop the broadcast.
After this, a petition was filed in the apex court regarding the broadcast of this program. The petitioner's counsel sought several reliefs including an interim stay on the telecast of the program.
On 15 September, the Supreme Court stayed the channel from airing the episodes of 'Bindas Bol' till further orders. The court also said that this program seems to discredit the Muslim community at first sight.
During the September 15 hearing, the court had also raised the issue of media reporting and self-regulation, in response to which, on the 17th hearing, the government said that before digital media should be regulated, adequate regulation for print-electronic media should exist. Huh.
After this, during the hearing on September 18, Justice DY Chandrachud had said, "Supreme Court banning something is like a nuclear missile, but we had to come forward because no action was being taken by anyone else."
After this, on 26 October, the Central Government informed the Supreme Court that in the case of show cause notice issued to Sudarshan TV, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is ready with the order. The notice was issued to Sudarshan TV on the recommendation of the inter-ministerial group, which had seen all the episodes of the channel's 'Bindaas Bol' program.
