BIOTECHNOLOGY IN COVID-19 ERA

Biotechnology is a branch of science which deals with the biological system with technology for human welfare. The biological system includes micro-organisms, plants, and animals. This is not a new subject but an ancient subject which got its name in the 20th century. There are so many home examples that will prove this statement. For example, brewing and baking bread use yeast (a living organism) to produce the product which can be used. The fermentation process is one of them. Now, this is called fermentation technology. Using big fermenters for process design and getting the desired product in controlled laboratory conditions.
As in the 1970s, a new beginning in technology in biology with the development of genetic engineering, research in biotechnology raises its moves in all the dimensions of life like medicine. This gives hope for disease diagnosis and treatment better. Now biotechnology is not a single term it covers genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, environment, recombinant DNA technology, and so on. In the COVID era, a need for biotechnologists increases to test the virus in a human body by different biomedical tests. Not only this the biotechnologists are researchers also in different laboratories to design testing kits and develop methods for monitoring and diagnosis of diseases. They have a big role in the pharma industry also. This corona pandemic has shown the real importance of biotechnologists. The biotech industry also suffered due to a short supply of transport and many other problems. But had opened lots of scope and opportunities for this industry. All across the world, the big giants of the biotech industry and research organizations are trying to overcome this disease. They all worked together joins hands with academia to develop vaccines and repurposing the drug therapies against this novel coronavirus. Rising demand for development of front line medicines, vaccines, diagnostics kits, and proper treatment is today’s demand which greatly showed the importance of biotechnology and biotechnologists. At present many funding agencies whether Government or private raises fund against this novel coronavirus treatment. All around the scientific community are started vaccine trials to come with a particular vaccine or therapy to save the life of people on a large scale. This is the power of biotech to bring close to all the people of the world to fight for humanity.Not only the biotech sector but the IT sector also comes forward to collaborate to develop smart, rapid test kits, intelligent devices. The backbone of the medical industry is none other than the biotech industry and the pharma – the industry is their product developer.
